I’ve always been interested in photography, so, a few years ago I decided to start saving up for a nice DSLR and expand my artistic skill set. Well, I got the most amazing gift for my 19th birthday last month, a brand new Canon Rebel T5i. I was so excited! I’ve been watching all kinds of photography classes on Creative Live and gathering information of different photography styles. Now, I can put all that information to good use!

After receiving my camera, I went to the park for a quick little photo shoot with my new camera. I’ve used my mom’s old Canon film SLR but I’ve never had a DLSR to shoot with. I was so exited that my mom’s macro lens fit on my new camera as I was able to capture some wonderful butterfly pictures at the park.

And, of course, Perry, my very energetic muse.

I have even been studying up on night photography and plan to try some in the near future. For now though, I’ll be working on experimenting with pet photography with the help of Perry. This is a photo shoot I tried just today with Perry in the living room with just a simple bed sheet for a background. Perry insisted on having his favorite toy during the shoot.

As you can see, the background idea didn’t quite pan out but when you have a squirmy 2 year old Labrador, you take what you can get. I also learned to keep an eye on my lens caps around my furry friend. I couldn’t find mine after the shoot and a few minutes later my mom comes in and hands me a drool covered lens cap. Evidently, Perry had swiped it when I wasn’t looking. Luckily he didn’t chew on it. 🙂

I’m planning to do mainly pet, animal, and wildlife photography but as I am about to start college classes again, I’m not sure how much I will get to do this fall. Hopefully some opportunities will arise.

Any thoughts on what I should try to photograph next?
